SNOWBORN / Markus Moser

SNOWBORN is my guiding and coaching practice. Splitboarding, freeriding and the mountain knowledge that holds them together.

You skin up through fresh snow while the valley is still waking. At the top there's time to look, eat, and talk through the line. Then the board goes back together and the best part of the day begins.

I follow how the snowpack and the weather develop over days and weeks, not just the morning forecast. That's how I know where the good snow is, and where to stay away from. You ride with more freedom because that work is done before you arrive.

Who rides with me

Wherever you're starting from.

You don't need to be an expert to get into the backcountry. You need the right day for where you are now, and a guide who knows the terrain.

You ride the whole resort

Your first steps off-piste

You're confident on the piste and keep looking at the untracked snow beside it. Start with coaching in variable snow and learn what to look for before you leave the marked runs.

You want to earn your turns

Getting into splitboarding

Skins, transitions, kick turns, pacing. The climb is a skill of its own. Learn it properly and touring days become something you look forward to instead of something you survive.

Good fit: Technique coaching · Private guiding

You already tour

Bigger lines, bigger days

You have the kit and the legs. Now you want a summit, a couloir, a traverse or a trip further away, with a guide who has scouted the conditions and plans the day around them.

Snowboard & Splitboard Technique

Focused coaching on how you ride and how you move uphill. On the slopes that means carve training and freestyle, along with stance, edge control and timing; on the way up, kick turns, pacing and transitions. Small changes that make the whole day feel easier.

Film & Brand Productions

Mountain support for film crews, brands and commercial photo shoots. I scout locations and conditions, guide talent and crew into the terrain, and plan the day around light, snow and safety. I'm currently working on a splitboard film from my Greenland expedition, so I know what a production needs from the mountain.

How a day comes together

From request to first tracks.

Every day is different, because the snow is. This is the rhythm most of my days follow.

  1. You send a request

Tell me what you'd like to ride, your experience and your dates, through the form or the AI guide. I reply personally with what's possible.

  2. The plan takes shape

In the days before, I watch the snowpack, the bulletin and the forecast and settle on an objective that fits both the conditions and your group.

  3. Morning check

We meet, check equipment together and go over the plan for the day, including the points where we decide whether to carry on.

  4. The climb

Skins on. A steady pace through quiet snow, with coaching along the way on the track, the turns and the transitions.

  5. The descent

Boards together, a look at the line, and the turns you came for. Afterwards we talk through what you rode and why the day went the way it did.

About me

Markus Moser

“I guide to share the freedom of the mountains, the magic of the wild, and the joy of earning every turn.”

Growing up in the mountains, skiing and snowboarding were simply part of childhood. I spent more time on my skis or snowboard than on my bike. It's where my mind clears, where I feel most connected to nature, and where everything else fades away.

Riding through untouched snow, floating over crystals of powder, feels like surfing a wave. A pure moment of freedom that keeps me coming back for more.

I guide and coach under the SNOWBORN name. My days are planned from the snowpack up: I follow how layers and weather build through the season before deciding where a group should be, and where it shouldn't.

As a coach I work on the details that make riding feel easier: where your weight sits, when an edge engages, how you read the next twenty metres instead of the next two. On a splitboard the same attention goes into the climb.

I guide for Spark R&D, the splitboard binding maker from Montana, for Snowcountry and for Openwear, and I ride as an ambassador for Amplid. My expedition to Greenland is becoming a splitboard film with Snowcountry.

    The mountain sets the plan.

    Before

    Reading terrain

Slope angle, aspect, elevation, what lies above and what lies below. A route is a chain of these questions. I answer them for the day in front of us, using what I've watched build up over the season.

    During

    Adapting

Wind changes the snow in an afternoon. Visibility closes. Someone is slower than they expected. The plan is a starting point, and good days often look different by noon.

    Always

    Turning around

No guide can remove the risk of travelling in avalanche terrain. The work is to understand it, reduce exposure and keep options open. Sometimes the best call of the day is the line you don't ride.

    Before you book

    Good questions.

The things people usually ask first. Anything else, put it in your request or ask the AI guide.

Do I need my own splitboard?

No. You can rent an Amplid splitboard from me for €30 per day.

Tick "Rent a splitboard" in the request form and add your stance, boot size and preferred board shape (swallowtail or twin), so the right board is ready for you.

How fit do I need to be?

For touring days you should be comfortable with a few hours of steady uphill walking. The objective is matched to the group, so describe your fitness honestly and the day will fit.

What avalanche equipment do I need?

In the backcountry everyone carries an avalanche transceiver (LVS), a shovel and a probe in a backpack.

If you don't have your own, you can rent from me: an avalanche transceiver (LVS) for €10 per day, and a backpack with shovel and probe for €10 per day. Just tick what you need in the request form.

What if the conditions are bad?

Then the plan changes. That might mean a different objective, a different day, or a session focused on technique or safety skills instead. When I can, I talk options through with you before you travel.

How far ahead should I ask?

The earlier the better, especially for weekends, holidays and longer trips. Short-notice requests are still worth sending.

    What does it cost?

It depends on the format, the group size and the objective. I include the price in my reply to your request, before anything is agreed.

    Can I bring friends?

Yes. All sessions are private, so you can book for yourself or for your own group. Enter the group size in the request.

    Private request

    Request your day.

Tell me what you have in mind. I read every request myself and reply with what's possible, when, and what it involves.

Not sure what fits? Describe the trip or the riding you have in mind. The assistant asks a few questions, suggests the closest SNOWBORN format and puts your request together for me.
